Welcome

A typical experience is to bring students and divide them into equal groups of 15- 20 students. For each hour, one group begins in the Discovery Lab and the other group is engaged in grade level EVAs and New World (depending on group size).   Groups then switch for the second hour & so forth, depending on time needed.

Steps for Registration

  1. Choose a time block based on max number of students.  You are welcome to stay longer with fewer students. We will adjust our schedule as needed. (Ex. only have 45 students but would like to do 3 hours.)
  2. See our Google Appointment page (see below) for an open date.  We are currently booking for the 2024-2025 school year.
  3. Once a date is picked please request the date on our Google Appointment page.
  4. A registration form will be emailed to you for completion or you can download it.

  1.  DISCOVERY LAB: Aspiring scientists, engineers and mathematicians are engaged in a variety of 16 hands on experiments ranging from space probe construction to robotic arms. Students may work individually or in pairs to foster working together. Students work at their own pace on activities based on NYS Education Standards and NGSS.  Included in all blocks.
  2. THE OTHER LITTLE PIG- students build a house for "the other little pig" out of Zometools (30 min.). Included in all blocks.
  3. NEW WORLD: Can humans live on another planet? After suiting up (helmet, backpack, gloves) students voyage to a newly discovered exoplanet via our transporter room and examine the planet surface for "signs of life" (water, rocks, geodes, fossils, etc.) (30 min.). Included for a 3 or 4 hour block.
  4. INTERACTIVE SOLAR SYSTEM -  students simulate the movement of planets (30 min.). Included for a 4 hour block.

  2.  MICRO-ROCKETS:  Students learn about the 3 basic parts of a rocket and Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion while building, launching and measuring distance using non-standard measurement. Included in all blocks.
  3. NEW WORLD: Can humans live on another planet? After suiting up (helmet, backpack, gloves) students voyage to a newly discovered exoplanet via our transporter room and examine the planet surface for "signs of life" (water, rocks, geodes, fossils, etc.). Included for a 3 or 4 hour block.
  4. SPACE PETS STEAM STORY:  Students work together to help the main character solve a problem through design, development and testing.  Included for a 4 hour block.

  2. LIGHT LESSONS: Students learn about reflecting light, refracting light, transparent, translucent and opaque materials and how we use these concepts to create tools and discover more about our Solar System.
  4. MOON BIRTHDAY PARTY STEAM STORY: Student astronauts are invited to a birthday party on the lunar surface. An escape challenge and party games illustrate what it would be like to live long-term on the moon. Included for a 4 hour block.

  2. MICROMETEOROIDS SPACE SUIT CHALLENGE:  In EVAs, astronauts face their greatest enemies: micrometeoroids! Are you able to help NASA develop a spacesuit that will protect our astronauts while they are on a space walk against these dastardly particles? Students will work with a partner to choose from a variety of materials to construct their prototype, test their suit, collect data with tallies and bar graphs, and revise their construction.
  4. FACTS OF MATTER: Students explore the 3 States of Matter through several hands-on activities. Each student will build molecular models of each state and then explore the properties of mass and shape using scales and samples of each state. Also embedded in the activities are examples of physical and chemical changes in matter.  Included for a 4 hour block.
