Within the county, the time of the eclipse will range from 2:00pm - 4:45pm.
Totality, on average, will begin at 3:18pm.
A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, completely blocking the sun's image for viewers on Earth.
At all times during a partial solar eclipse, or when no eclipse is occurring at all, view the Sun only through special-purpose solar filters that comply with the transmission requirements of the ISO 12312-2 standard. We do not have solar eclipse glasses available for the public but they are available at local libraries. Students in public schools in Cattaraugus & Allegany county that are connected to BOCES will also receive glasses.
NASA & other organizations have different citizen science activities you can participate in. Click below for information on livestreams, 3D printed pinhole viewers & more!
We are thrilled to let you know that we're teaming up with the Ellicottville Memorial Library to put together a super cool Solar Eclipse Event. You'll get to learn all about total solar eclipses and participate in some fun pre-eclipse activities before we all get to watch the amazing celestial event!
